ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

What makes a rug a "shag"?

Pile height. Shag rugs have a much longer pile than standard rugs — typically over an inch — which gives them that soft, almost shaggy surface texture. Quince's shag rugs are wool, hand-tufted for density.

Are shag rugs hard to vacuum?

Use a vacuum without a beater bar or with the beater bar disengaged. Run the vacuum slowly so suction has time to lift dust from the deeper pile. Once a season, take the rug outside and shake it.

Can shag rugs work in high-traffic areas?

They work, but they show wear faster than low-pile rugs. Better suited to bedrooms, reading nooks, and lounge areas than entryways or kitchens. If you want a soft rug for a busy room, look at our Wool Rugs collection in tighter weaves.

What's the difference between shag and high-pile?

Shag is a type of high-pile — but not all high-pile rugs are shag. Shag specifically refers to a longer, looser, often uneven pile that creates that soft tactile look. Plush and high-pile rugs can be more uniform.

How do you clean a shag rug?

Shake or beat outdoors regularly. Vacuum without a beater bar. Spot-clean spills with cold water and mild wool detergent — blot, never rub. For deep cleaning, send to a professional wool-rug cleaner every two to three years.

Are shag rugs warm?

Yes — and that's part of the appeal. The high pile traps air, which makes the surface noticeably warmer underfoot than tile, hardwood, or low-pile rugs. Good for bedrooms and any room that sits over a cold floor in winter.

Do you offer free returns & exchanges?

Yes, rugs may be returned for a full refund or exchange within 365 days of the delivery date. Rugs are subject to a $35 restocking fee for storage and handling.
