Women's Silk

While most silk requires dry cleaning or hand-washing, Quince's washable silk is treated to handle a cold, gentle-cycle machine wash without losing sheen or softening into chiffon. It's still 100% silk—same fiber, same drape—but the finish lets you skip the dry cleaner.

Silk weight is measured in momme (the higher the number, the heavier the fabric). Quince's blouse and dress silk sits in the 16-19 momme range—substantial enough to drape cleanly without being sheer, light enough to wear in warm weather. Pajama and slip silk runs lighter (around 14 momme).

Quince's washable silk uses the same long-staple mulberry silk found across the higher-end specialty silk market—you'll find a comparable momme weight, comparable construction, and comparable hand feel. The major difference is that our price reflects direct-from-factory sourcing rather than wholesale and retail margins. A blouse-weight Quince silk piece lands well below the going retail for a comparable specialty silk style.

Hang the garment in a steamy bathroom for 10-15 minutes, or use a handheld garment steamer on the lowest heat setting. Never iron silk directly—even with a press cloth, ironing can scorch and dull the sheen. Wrinkles typically relax overnight on a padded hanger. Deeper creases may need a pass with the steamer.

You can machine wash our washable silk on a cold, delicate cycle in a mesh bag—or hand wash it. Use a silk- or wool-safe detergent (never bleach or fabric softener). Hang to dry on a padded hanger or lay flat. Store in a breathable garment bag if you won't wear for several months—direct sunlight fades silk, and plastic bags tend to trap moisture and yellow the fabric.
