Pillowcases

Pillowcases are most often offered in standard (20" × 26") for standard or queen pillows, king (20" × 36") for king pillows, and Euro (26" × 26") for square decorative shams.

It depends on what you're optimizing for. Silk and sateen are the smoothest options—a good choice for those looking to minimize friction on skin and hair overnight. Percale and linen are more breathable and cooling, with a crisper texture that suits warm sleepers. Organic cotton and bamboo are worth considering for sensitive skin.

Washing weekly in cold water on a gentle cycle goes a long way. Use a mild detergent without bleach—bleach yellows white fabric and weakens fibers over time. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Iron only if crisp lines matter to you (and it's okay for the pillowcase fabric); most fabrics settle into a relaxed finish on their own.

With regular care, cotton and linen pillowcases hold up well for a few years before showing signs of thinning or wear. Replace earlier if you notice persistent staining, thinning fabric, or torn seams.

Percale is a plain weave—crisp, cool, and lightweight, with a matte finish that gets softer with each wash. Sateen is a satin weave—smoother and slightly warmer, with a subtle sheen.
