Cleaning frequency by tool type: makeup brushes — wash weekly with a gentle brush cleanser or baby shampoo; rinse with cool water (hot water loosens the glue in the ferrule), reshape, and air dry bristle-down or flat; gua sha and facial rollers — wipe with a damp cloth after each use, clean with mild soap weekly; store in a dry place (not in a steamy bathroom); facial cleansing devices — rinse the brush head after every use, replace brush heads every 3 months; lash tools (curlers, spoolies) — wipe with a dry tissue after each use; replace rubber pads on lash curlers every 3–6 months. General rule: any tool that touches the face directly should be cleaned at least weekly to prevent bacterial buildup that causes breakouts. Replace porous or rubber components on a regular schedule regardless of how clean they appear.
