Merino Wool Sweaters

18 merino wool silhouettes across two sub-lines. Heavyweight Australian merino covers crewneck (pullover, oversized), cardigan (buttoned, open, oversized, cable collar, duster, hoodie pullover crochet trim), turtleneck (standard, oversized), cable knit sweater, cable knit sweater vest, short mockneck, half-zip pullover, and full-zip pullover. The Superfine Merino line offers a pullover coat, oversized boucle crewneck, boucle turtleneck, and V-neck sweater — those have finer fibers for a softer, lighter feel. All 18 are 100% Australian merino wool.

Heavyweight Australian merino — Quince's standard line — uses thicker, more substantial wool yarn for serious warmth and structured silhouettes. Best for outerwear-adjacent layering (cardigans, turtlenecks, half-zips) and cold-weather wear. Superfine merino uses thinner, long-staple fibers for a softer, lighter feel — gentler on skin, with less surface texture. Best for layering pieces and transitional-weather wear. Both are 100% merino, both naturally thermoregulating and odor-resistant — they differ in yarn weight and gauge.

Merino wool fibers measure roughly 18-22 microns (Quince Mongolian cashmere is 15.8 microns — finer). That means cashmere has a softer, finer feel. Merino is denser and more elastic — better natural stretch, better odor resistance, holds its shape under active wear. Cashmere is lighter per ounce of warmth, with a more luxurious drape. Cashmere needs more delicate care (lay flat to dry); merino is more forgiving (some styles handle the machine wool/delicate cycle). Choose merino for everyday durability + temperature regulation; choose cashmere for the finest softness.

Most run true to size. Heavyweight Australian merino styles (crewneck, half-zip, full-zip, cable knit sweater, buttoned cardigan) have a regular fit through the body. Oversized styles (oversized cardigan, oversized turtleneck, oversized crewneck, boucle oversized crewneck) are intentionally roomy — stay with your standard size. Superfine merino styles fit slightly closer to the body given the finer gauge. The short mockneck is short in the body by design. The pullover coat is the longest piece — hits mid-thigh.

Hand wash cool or machine wash on the wool/delicate cycle in a mesh bag. Lay flat to dry — never hang wet (wool stretches). Merino's natural odor resistance means you can wear it multiple times between washes without it picking up smells. Pill management: use a sweater comb or pumice stone for the first few wears; merino's denser fiber structure pills less than cashmere. Store folded, not hung. Avoid bleach. Boucle styles (boucle oversized crewneck, boucle turtleneck) need extra care — the textured surface snags on velcro, jewelry, etc.
