Coverlets & Bed Blankets

A coverlet is a single-layer top covering that is woven or quilted (matelassé, ribbed, jacquard, channel-stitched) and sized to drape over the edges of the mattress — usually decorative on the top of the bed. A bed blanket is a flat woven piece (gauze, waffle, luxury cotton) sized like a coverlet but without surface stitching — most often used as a mid-layer between the sheet and a quilt or comforter for adjustable warmth.

Coverlets are even lighter than quilts and drape with a flatter, more tailored look — best for warm-weather sleep, the bottom-of-bed accent layer, or for homes where the bed reads as a styled focal point during the day. Quilts have batting and more loft — warmer, softer, and more lived-in. Many shoppers layer a coverlet over a quilt: the quilt for warmth in winter, the coverlet alone in summer.
