Flannel Bedding

Flannel is a brushed cotton fabric—the surface is brushed to lift the fibers, creating a soft, fuzzy texture that holds warmth. Quince's flannel bedding is luxuriously heavier than standard cotton sheets and best for cold-weather sleeping.

Flannel is built for cold-weather sleeping—winter nights, unheated rooms, or houses that run cool. Cotton percale or sateen is the better choice for warmer months, when flannel holds too much heat. Many households keep flannel on the bed from October through March and switch to cotton or linen for the warmer half of the year.

Some pilling and shedding in the first two to three washes is normal—the brushing process loosens stray fibers that work their way out early on. After that initial period, it tapers off significantly. Wash flannel separately from rough textiles like denim, which accelerate pilling.

With normal seasonal use, Quince flannel sheets typically last 3–5 years. They soften with each wash and become more comfortable over time. Eventually the brushed surface wears down—that's a natural sign it's time to replace them.

Machine wash cold on a delicate cycle and tumble dry low—high heat damages the brushed fibers. Use a fragrance-free detergent without enzymes, which can contribute to pilling. Store seasonally folded rather than in sealed plastic bags, which trap moisture and can damage the fabric over time.
