ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

What is a Persian rug?

A Persian rug is a hand-knotted or hand-tufted rug whose patterns trace back to Iranian textile tradition — usually a central medallion with floral or palmette borders, and dense enough knot counts to hold detail for decades. Ours are woven from wool by artisans in regions where the technique has been passed down for generations.

What are the main types of Persian rugs?

Four come up most often: Tabriz (curvilinear, often medallion), Kashan (dense floral with central medallion), Heriz (bolder geometry), and Isfahan (very fine knot count, ornate). Our assortment draws on these traditions in colorways made for modern homes.

What's the difference between a Persian rug and an Oriental rug?

Related, not synonymous. Oriental is the broader category — any hand-knotted rug from Asia (Persian, Turkish, Indian, Chinese, and more). Persian is the subset originating in or styled after rugs from Iran. So every Persian rug is Oriental, but not every Oriental rug is Persian.

Are Quince's Persian rugs hand-knotted?

Both, depending on the style. Hand-knotted rugs are tied one knot at a time onto the warp — the densest, longest-lasting construction available. Hand-tufted rugs use a tufting tool to push wool into a pre-stretched canvas backing, which makes them faster to produce, softer underfoot, and more accessibly priced.

How do I clean a Persian-style wool rug?

Vacuum weekly without a beater bar (that protects the pile). Spot-clean spills with cold water and a small amount of mild wool detergent — blot, never rub. Every two or three years, send it to a professional wool-rug cleaner. Keep it out of direct sunlight to prevent fading. For full care guidance, see Wool Rugs.

Why are Persian rugs considered worth investing in?

Hand-knotted Persian rugs are dense, durable, and made from natural fibers that age beautifully — the patina that develops on wool over time is part of why these rugs hold their look for decades. And by working directly with artisans instead of through specialty retailers, we offer the same construction at a meaningfully lower price.

Do you offer free returns & exchanges?

Yes, rugs may be returned for a full refund or exchange within 365 days of the delivery date. Rugs are subject to a $35 restocking fee for storage and handling.
