A topcoat is a full outer layer — structured at the shoulder, typically knee-length or longer, worn over a suit or sport coat. A cashmere blazer is the middle layer in a smart-casual or business outfit — structured but lighter than a topcoat, appropriate as the outermost layer in mild weather. The cashmere overshirt sits closest to the body and reads more casually: unstructured, lightweight, functioning as the outer layer in transitional weather or as a refined layer at home.

Structured styles (blazers, topcoats) use a cashmere-wool blend — typically 70–85% wool, 15–30% cashmere. The wool provides tensile strength and structure that keeps a jacket holding its shape through a full day of wear. Pure cashmere is used in lighter, less structured styles (overshirts, cocoon coats). The blend doesn't diminish quality — it's the standard construction for luxury cashmere outerwear at every price point.

The topcoat and blazer styles are both office-appropriate and suitable for business-casual environments. The blazer in charcoal, navy, or camel worn over a collared shirt and tailored trousers is standard business-casual dress anywhere. The topcoat worn over a suit or sport coat is appropriate for formal offices, client meetings, and most professional settings. The cashmere overshirt is smart-casual rather than business-appropriate.

Most cashmere jackets are dry clean only — the structured construction (shoulder pads, interlining) doesn't respond well to machine washing. Dry clean 1–2 times per season; between cleans, hang on a wide-shouldered hanger to maintain shape, steam lightly to remove wrinkles, and use a clothing brush to keep the surface clean. Spot clean minor marks with a damp cloth before they set. With proper storage and occasional cleaning, a cashmere jacket lasts decades.

Quince cashmere jackets are fairly priced at $149–$250, built with Grade A Mongolian cashmere construction — priced well below specialty cashmere outerwear retail for comparable fiber grade. The difference reflects our direct-to-consumer model, not the fiber. (Mid-tier brands in this price band typically use cashmere-blends rather than pure cashmere; we use pure Grade A.)

The topcoat works over a suit, sport coat, or even a cashmere turtleneck-and-trousers combination — the formality of the topcoat elevates whatever's under it. The blazer is most flexible: pair with chinos and a collared shirt for business casual, or wear with dark jeans and a plain T-shirt for smart casual. The overshirt layers over a crewneck sweater or heavy shirt in transitional weather — it functions as the finishing piece without the weight of a full jacket.
