Quince uses Grade A Mongolian cashmere, the highest classification for cashmere fiber. Grade A fibers are longer and finer than lower grades — typically under 16 microns in diameter — which produces a sweater that is softer against skin, less prone to pilling, and more durable over time. Lower-grade cashmere uses shorter fibers that pill more aggressively and lose their softness faster. For a sweater you intend to wear for years, the fiber grade is the single most important quality variable.

Some pilling is normal in the early wears, particularly in areas of friction — underarms, elbows, the torso where a bag strap rests. Grade A cashmere pills less than lower grades because the longer fibers are more tightly bound in the yarn. When pills do form, remove them with a cashmere comb or fabric shaver — it takes thirty seconds and returns the sweater to like-new condition. Most customers find pilling decreases significantly after the first few washes.

Hand wash in cool water with a gentle detergent or baby shampoo, or machine wash on a delicate cycle in a mesh bag. Do not wring or twist. Lay flat on a clean towel to dry at room temperature — hanging stretches the knit over time. Avoid direct sunlight and heat. With this care routine, a well-made cashmere sweater can last well over a decade.
