ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
What's "full-grain" leather?
What's "full-grain" leather?
The top layer of the hide, with the natural grain intact and unsanded. It's the highest-quality leather grade — strongest, most durable, and the only grade that develops the patina that makes leather goods improve with age.
Where does Quince source leather from?
Where does Quince source leather from?
Italian and Argentine tanneries, both regions known for vegetable-tanned and chrome-tanned leather of high quality. Direct relationships rather than commodity sourcing — the tanneries we work with also supply specialty leather brands.
How is full-grain different from "genuine" leather?
How is full-grain different from "genuine" leather?
"Genuine leather" is the lowest leather grade — split layers of hide bonded together, sanded, and embossed to look like grain. It's real leather but with much shorter lifespan than full-grain. We use full-grain across our men's leather collection.
How do I care for leather goods?
How do I care for leather goods?
Wipe clean weekly with a dry cloth. Condition every 6-12 months with leather balm to prevent drying and cracking. Avoid getting leather repeatedly wet; if it does get soaked, dry slowly at room temperature. Store in dust bags when not in use.
Will the leather develop patina?
Will the leather develop patina?
Yes — that's part of the appeal. Full-grain leather darkens slightly with use, develops smooth high-touch areas, and accumulates the small marks of daily handling. Vegetable-tanned leather patinas more dramatically than chrome-tanned.
Why is Quince leather less expensive than designer goods?
Why is Quince leather less expensive than designer goods?
Same Italian and Argentine tanneries supply both specialty brands and us. The price difference is in the markup — direct sourcing without wholesale + retail margins gets the same leather at meaningfully lower prices.
