Standard square sizes include 20"×20"—a common sofa accent size—22"×22", and 24"×24" for anchoring a sectional or bed. Lumbar options run 14"×22" and 16"×30" for lower back support. A 26"×26" Euro size works well for back-of-bed styling.

Rugs anchor a room from the floor up and are the bigger commitment in both price and permanence. Pillows and throws work as a quicker visual refresh—layering color and texture into what's already there. Rugs make sense when the floor needs a foundation; pillows and throws make sense when the sofa or bed needs a finishing layer. Most rooms benefit from both eventually.
