1. What's the best way to wash cashmere?

Cashmere is more forgiving than its reputation suggests. Hand-wash in cool water with a gentle or wool-specific detergent, or use the delicate cycle in a mesh laundry bag. Never wring or twist — lay flat on a clean towel, reshape while damp, then air dry completely before storing. Avoid fabric softeners. For blends, seasonal weights, or specialty finishes, follow the care instructions on the product page.

2. Why is cashmere typically so expensive?

Cashmere is genuinely rare — the fiber can only be combed from cashmere goats once a year, and a single sweater takes the undercoat of several animals. It's also exceptionally soft and roughly three times more insulating than sheep's wool, which keeps demand consistent. The conventional cashmere price is built on top of that scarcity, with the layered markups of traditional retail on top. Quince works directly with the mills that supply established luxury brands, so the same Grade-A Mongolian cashmere reaches you without those added costs. 3. How often should you wash cashmere?

Cashmere doesn't need frequent washing. The fiber is naturally breathable and releases odors easily, so most pieces can be worn five to six times between washes. Spot-clean small marks as they happen, and freshen between wears by airing the sweater overnight or steaming briefly. When it's time to wash, follow the care instructions on the product page — they're tailored to the specific blend, weight, and finish of each cashmere style.

4. How do I keep cashmere from pilling?

Pilling is normal — it's a natural byproduct of how cashmere fibers move against each other during wear. Two ways to manage it: minimize washes (cashmere is breathable enough to wear several times between cleans, with an overnight air-out in between), and keep a cashmere comb on hand. A few light strokes in the direction of the knit lift surface pills without damaging the fiber. With proper care, cashmere softens and improves over time.

5. How do I style cashmere sweaters?

Cashmere is one of the easiest pieces to style — fine-gauge enough to layer under tailored coats, structured enough to stand alone with denim or a silk skirt. A few starting points:

  • Add gold: A pair of delicate earrings or a layered chain reads beautifully against a v-neckline. Stacked bracelets do the same at the cuff.

  • Layer up: Pair fine-gauge cashmere under a tailored blazer or a wool coat. The warmth holds without the bulk.
