ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Is a camel coat worth the investment — isn't it just a trend?

The camel coat has appeared continuously in fashion for over 60 years — through every decade, every major trend cycle, without exception. It's not seasonal; it's structural. A well-made camel coat bought at 30 will look as appropriate at 50. The cost-per-wear calculation over a 10–20 year lifespan makes it one of the most economical wardrobe investments available, particularly at Quince's fair pricing.

What's the difference between a camel coat in wool blend vs. cashmere?

Wool blend is warmer per unit of weight — denser fiber, better insulation in extreme cold — and more durable under heavy daily use. Cashmere-wool blend is softer and lighter, with a finer hand that feels more luxurious against bare skin. For a coat you'll wear every day in a harsh winter, the wool blend is the more practical choice. For a coat that's lighter weight, travels better, and you'll wear across a wider temperature range, the cashmere blend is worth the premium.

What colors do camel coats actually come in?

"Camel" spans a range: from a warm golden tan (the lightest), to a true camel (medium amber-brown), to a darker golden brown (deepest). Our collection uses the classic camel — a medium warm tan that pairs with virtually every color in a wardrobe. Unlike beige (which skews toward grey) or tan (which can read cooler), camel has consistent warmth that makes it work year after year.

How do I style a camel coat?

The honest answer: with anything. The camel coat is one of the most outfit-agnostic pieces in a wardrobe. It works over a black turtleneck and straight-leg jeans (the most classic combination), over a floral midi dress for a high-low contrast, over a white button-down and wide-leg trousers, over a slip dress and tall boots. The coat does the visual work; the outfit underneath simply needs to be composed. Avoid competing with the coat in color — neutrals underneath let it lead.

How warm is a wool blend camel coat — what temperatures does it handle?

Our wool blend camel coats are designed for 20°F–45°F (-7°C–7°C) as the outermost layer. In that range with a mid-layer underneath (cashmere sweater, light fleece), they provide complete warmth. Below 20°F, a heavier down or wool layer underneath is advisable. The cashmere blend styles run slightly lighter and are most comfortable in the 30°F–50°F range. For severe winter climates, the wool blend construction is the more practical choice.

How do I care for a camel coat?

Most wool and cashmere-blend coats should be dry cleaned 1–2 times per season. Between cleans: use a clothing brush after each wear to remove surface lint and debris, hang on a wide-shouldered hanger (never fold or store compressed), and steam lightly to remove wrinkles. Spot clean minor marks with a damp cloth immediately. Store in a breathable garment bag with cedar blocks to protect against moths during off-season storage. With this care, a quality wool coat lasts 15–20+ years.
